ICT case: Deepto TV directors, COO granted bail
Chattogram Cyber Tribunal today (July 19, 2022) granted bail to two directors of Deepto TV and its chief operating officer in three cases filed under ICT Act in 2016 for allegedly "defaming" the former minister for expatriates' welfare and overseas employment Nurul Islam BSc and his son Mujibur Rahman through "fake news".
Chattogram Cyber Tribunal Judge Md Jahirul Kabir passed the order after hearing bail petitions in the cases, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting Advocate Mezbah Uddin, public prosecutor of the tribunal.
The three are: Deepto TV's directors Kazi Zahin Hasan, Kazi Rabet Hasan, and Chief Operating Officer Urfi Ahmed.
Yesterday, the same court sent the three to jail. The court also ordered to send Deepto TV's Managing Director Kazi Zahedul Hasan to jail, but granted him bail after a couple of hours on health grounds.
The four accused are also the top officials of Kazi Farms Group.
Three cases were lodged – two in Chawakbazar and one in Chandgaon – accusing the four officials and three journalists of Deepto TV for "defaming the minister and his son" through circulating "fake news", according to the case statement.
Sheikh Ahmad, manger (Land) of Sanowara Group, Jahangir Alam, manager of Sanowara Poultry and Hatchery, flied the cases in 2016 according to the case statement.
