GP launches eSIM in Bangladesh for the first time
Grameenphone, the largest operator, for the first time has launched eSIM in Bangladesh.
eSIM is embedded in a mobile device that allows you to connect with your operator of choice without having the need to purchase a physical SIM Card. It works just like a regular SIM but does not require a physical card, and only works on devices with pre-installed eSIM support.
According to GP's website, customers now can purchase new numbers or replace their existing SIM for an eSIM. Customers can be able to avail eSIM from March 7.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), a couple of months back, approved eSIM for operators.
Globally many operators are offering eSIM as a subscriber can store and load multiple SIM without needing a physical SIM. As a result, it has a positive impact on the environment as it reduces plastic.
Unfortunately, only a handful of handset supports eSIM. The list of supported handsets and device are listed here
