Entire committee of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad DU unit resigns
The leaders and committee members of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad today resigned en masse from the organisation alleging violation of the organisation's constitution by its central leaders and their "sycophancy".
Asif Mahmud, president of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, made the announcement at a press conference at the office of Dhaka University Journalists' Association today.
General Secretary of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Ahnaf Sayed Khan, Joint General Secretary Nusrat Tabassum, among others, were present at the press conference.
There were 21 leaders and members in the committee of the DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad
In a written statement, Asif Mahmud alleged that President of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Bin Yamin Molla and General Secretary Ariful Islam Adib were trying to gain unfair advantage by catering to Gono Odhikar Parishad.
He said Chhatra Odhikar Parishad is a student organisation formed in Dhaka University through quota reform movement.
"One of the aims and objectives of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad was to be vocal in the realisation of students' rights without any party affiliation," Asif Mahmud also said.
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University and Rajshahi University units have raised allegations that the president and general secretary of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad have violated the party's charter.
Besides, Science and Technology University Unit of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad also made same allegations in writing.
Asif Mahmud said, "Bin Yamin Molla and Ariful Islam Adib are continuing the organisational activities even though their positions became vacant due to the violation of the constitution."
The central council of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad did not take any action in this regard.
"Amid this situation, we (DU branch) are resigning upholding the ideal and commitment of establishing student politics avoiding sycophancy," Asif Mahmud added.
