Charlie Puth slammed for trying to get Selena's 'attention'
Charlie Puth has been slammed by internet users for resurfacing comments about the meaning of his song "Attention", amid rumours that Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik are dating.
The 31-year-old singer mentioned the song in a since-deleted tweet, last week. In the post, which was shared by BuzzFeed, he also hinted at the song's alleged meaning, writing, "Attention is about what you think it's about."
Since he shared and deleted his tweet, fans have drawn attention to a 2017 interview, where Puth discussed the meaning of his 2017 single "Attention". The singer would examine his lyrics and share how the song was about a woman he was seeing.
"We'd be talking in the hotel, and she'd say, 'You want to sleep over?' I'd say, yes, I'm going to get it in. And then nothing would happen, which is totally fine. But after like the fifth time of that happening, I knew what she was doing," Puth had said in the 2017 interview.
Puth went on to criticise the woman and claimed that when she invited him over at different times, he wouldn't get what he 'wanted'.
Fans have now slammed Puth on Twitter for these remarks, claiming that the song was about Gomez. They also chastised him for appearing to say that he wasn't getting what he wanted, because the woman refused to sleep with him.
"Charlie Puth is the perfect example of how most men act when a woman denies them access to her body. It's sick to say 'she wasn't going to give me what I wanted', and then go on to say that meant she was manipulating you. Even after eight years, the ego is still bruised," wrote one user.
"Charlie Puth is so embarrassed because his entire beef with Selena Gomez is based on the fact that she did not sleep with him," wrote another Twitter user.
Puth's resurfaced interview comes just days after a fan claimed she saw Gomez and Malik having dinner together in New York City, sparking dating rumours.
