Brazil into knockout stage, Argentina have to wait
It's a do-or-die dilemma for two-time champions Argentina as they take on Poland at 01:00 am on Thursday. On the following day, Germany will face Costa Rica with the same equation. Five-time champions Brazil already bagged qualification to the last 16 courtesy of consecutive victories against Serbia and Switzerland.
With six points in the bag, Cristiano-led Portugal have booked their place in the round of 16. The Netherlands have guaranteed qualification as Group A champions with Senegal going through as group runners-up. 1966 winner England have their title-bid intact as they topped Group B, while group runners-up USA beat Iran to cement their place in the second round. Despite having favourable qualification scenarios, Ecuador and Iran failed to go through.
