BNP demands re-election to GCC, rejects results
Bringing allegations of irregularities, the BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today rejected the Gazipur City Corporation polls and demanded a re-election.
“This was merely a mockery in the name of elections. Different strategies of vote rigging were invented and used,” Mirza Fakhrul told reporters at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in Dhaka today.
“With much hatred we reject the Gazipur City Corporation election results,” he added.
The ruling party Awami League’s nominated candidate Md Jahangir Alam was elected mayor in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections today defeating his rival BNP contender Hasan Uddin Sarker by a big margin.
