Bengali people are deeply sentimental, they like to exaggerate: Arifin Shuvoo
The highly anticipated biographical film "Mujib: The Making of a Nation" is scheduled for a local theatre release on October 13. The film's trailer and the song "Ochin Majhi" have already created significant excitement among both audiences and critics.
Directed by the renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal, "Mujib" stars Arifin Shuvoo in the lead role as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The movie features an outstanding ensemble cast, including Nusrat Imrose Tisha as Fazilatunnesa Mujib, Nusrat Faria as Sheikh Hasina, Riyaz Ahmed as Tajuddin Ahmed, and Zayed Khan as Tikka Khan, amongst others.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. During a recent screening of the film, Arifin Shuvoo shared his thoughts about the upcoming movie, a collaborative production between Bangladesh and India.
"I am thrilled about the release of 'Mujib' in theatres, but I have mixed feelings of hope and apprehension. We have invested a significant amount of time and effort into making this film, so we have great hope for its reception. However, there is also the fear that comes with portraying a figure as revered as the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he explained.
Arifin Shuvoo responded to a question about how well he portrayed the role of Bangabandhu by saying, "I'm not the one who should judge that; the audience will. What I can say is that the film's director, Shyam Benegal, is quite satisfied with my performance. Additionally, Bangabandhu's family has seen the film and expressed their satisfaction. They have acknowledged the effort and hard work we put into it."
He continued, "We must recognise that none of us on the team are the people we portrayed on screen. We were not born in that era or time. As a team, we have endeavoured to convey a story from a different period as effectively as possible."
Regarding a comment by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina referring to him as 'Baba', Arifin Shuvoo said, "Bengalis are deeply sentimental, and they tend to exaggerate. The incident occurred when the prime minister couldn't locate me in a crowd at an event. She playfully asked, 'Where is the one playing Abba?'"
The film also features a talented ensemble of actors, including Dilara Zaman, Chanchal Chowdhury, Siam Ahmed, Khairul Alam Sabuj, Ferdous Ahmed, Dighi, Raeesul Islam Asad, Gazi Rakayet, and many others, portraying various pivotal characters.
The film received an uncut certificate from the censor board after its screening on July 31. Produced with 60 percent of the budget from Bangladesh and 40 percent from India, the "Mujib" biopic began shooting at Mumbai's Film City on January 22, 2021, and completed its production in Bangladesh on December 18, 2021.
