Bangladeshi students win first and second prizes at Int’l Virtual Debate Festival Quiz
Oman Jafar and Sneha Mahjabin, two Bangladeshi students, have bagged the first and second prizes in the World Quiz Competition of the International Virtual Debate Festival, held in Bangladesh.
The National Debate Federation (NDF) organised the first International Debate Festival on August 13 and 14 in association with Alisha Holdings Limited. Students from 36 countries, including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Australia, United States and France participated in it.
More than four hundred students from around the world participated in the World Quiz Competition. Oman Zafar and Sneha Mahazabin, two 10th graders of Bogura Cantonment Public School and College, came first and second respectively in the quiz competition.
Arup Ratan Seal, joint secretary general of the central committee of the National Debate Federation (NDF) and coordinator of the Rajshahi zone, confirmed that the two Bangladeshi students achieved the first and second places in the competition.
Arup Ratan said US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller inaugurated the two-day virtual festival. Apart from Bangladesh, more than one thousand students from 36 countries participated in it. More than 400 students from 36 countries took part in the quiz session of the debate festival. The results of the festival were announced recently.
Two teams from Sylhet Cadet College and Jhenaidah Cadet College took part in the final competition of the debate festival. According to the judges, Jhenaidah Cadet College was the team champion. A three-member team from a total of 110 educational institutions in nine regions of Bangladesh participated in the debate festival at the divisional level. In the quiz section, Oman Zafar and Sneha Mahjabin came first and second among 400 students from 36 countries of the world respectively.
On behalf of the organising committee, Arup Ratan said, "This achievement of two students from Bogura in the world quiz competition is a matter of great pride."
Sneha Mahjabin, a 10th grader student of Bogura Cantonment Public School and College, who secured the second place in the quiz competition, said the competition was held on eight topics—Bangladesh, science and technology, sports, current affairs, media and awards, history, culture and literature and economics.
She added that the organisers of the debate festival have already confirmed the winner of the quiz stage. It has been informed that certificates and honorariums will be sent after August 30.
"Abu Awal Sardar, co-chairman of NDFBD, will hand over us the certificates and honorariums," said Sneha.
